INGO Accountability Charter
Transparency International is one of the 11 founding signatories of the International Non Governmental Accountability Charter (Common Commitment to Excellence, Transparency and Accountability) in 2006. Signatories commit to uphold the values and the standards that the Charter outlines and to promote transparency and good governance. By undertaking this commitment, NGOs are subject to social control since they accept increased responsibility and they aim at reinforcing their credibility toward civil society.
Transparency International – Greece played a leading role in the Greek translation and signing of the Charter by the Greek NGOs. On the 11th April 2008, 17 NGOs held a ceremony to publicly announce the adoption of the Charter and officially sign it at the presence of the former President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Konstantinos Stefanopoulos.
